Okay, I'm kinda on a bit of a feel-good high after Mike Branson's handgun training today. Mike does a good job.
Also, Hae-jung likes her two new pistols - so that's a big plus! My wife isn't a big shooter and I get her out so rarely that it's always a big score when she comes back in and says she had fun. Even better when she likes the handgun(s) because that sort of investment is always a bit risky.
OPSEC dictates that it's not wise for me to discuss the training too much here in a public forum. However...
I spent two years evaluating handguns appropriate for my wife. Long story there. And I spent another two weeks researching the best holsters for every imaginable type of carry situation and season for Hae-jung. What I've run into is this - for all the women shooters out there, there isn't much support. Few forums, blogs, or even shooting clubs. That's a bit of a surprise. Bummer.
Here's the deal. Would any female One Shepherd Members, or the wives, girlfriends, daughters thereof be interested in an informal shooting group?
One Shepherd doesn't teach marksmanship. And we're not going to. Nor am I trying to suggest that I would specifically host any shooting events (though that's a possibility). I'm just saying that if your wife, girlfriend, or daughter would appreciate discussing the nuanced matters of handgun shooting, open carry holsters, concealed carry issues - holsters, seasons, fashions, etc. - then I'd very much be in favor of that.
Frankly, I haven't even discussed this with Hae-jung. But I'm fairly confident she'd be up for getting together once or twice a year to conduct an informal shoot. Furthermore, there are just a couple of women's shooting forums out there. If she knew three, four, or six people here locally who were members of such a forum...I believe she might be inclined to frequent such a forum and even comment from time to time.
Obviously this is self serving. I'm looking to "hook" my wife more into shooting. But if there's mutual interest, then it's win-win for everyone. Why not, yeah?
Talk it over with the gun-totting woman in your life and let me know.
