One Shepherd has been at the forefront of leadership development through intense wargaming for over four decades. One Shepherd expands on that tradition through the Operational Warfighter Leader Program (OWLP or colloquially, the “Owl Piss”).
The OWLP takes leadership development tradition beyond the the small team structure offered in the existing Warrior Leader Program (WLP). The OWLP is a stand alone program of instruction that offers learners 21 and older the opportunity to develop leadership skills at the organizational and institutional level.
The curriculum spans four semesters across two years consisting of asynchronous remote learning with synchronous remote lecture and activity modules. There are four distinct Combined Arms Situational Exercises (CASTX; “caustic”) where learners will learn what it takes to coordinate and bring to bare higher echelon assets within a simulated combat environment at the battalion and brigade level. The four unique Battle Staff Seminars (BSS) allow the participants to engage with multidisciplinary teams with unique expertise. Each semester culminates in a weekend long, on site staff exercise (STAFFEX), pitting two opposing staffs against each other in a virtual exercise with live and constructive elements.
The cost is comparable to the existing WLP program with the benefit of not having to have participated in One Shepherd courses prior to attending the OWLP. The OWLP is a separate, complimentary course in leadership development offered without the requirement of strenuous, field centric activity found in the WLP.
The following photographs serve as promotion for the One Shepherd Dress Uniform (1SDU) required for participation in the OWLP. The cost of the 1SDU is included in the tuition as One Shepherd will serve a quality control function to assure you order the correct items. Further codification of the 1SDU standard is underway and will be released when complete.
The first semester of the OWLP is scheduled for 2025.
